Look at what I found on Pinterest today…a recipe for Dishwasher Salmon! Yes, apparently you can cook yourself a delicious salmon dinner right in your very own dishwasher…or so says Bob Blumer on Real Simple.
Before I pass along the recipe, I need to say that the photo is misleading. You don’t actually toss a whole salmon in your dishwasher like that, because that would just be a disaster, but it’s the photo that dragged me right in on Pinterest, so I used it.
Here’s the recipe:
Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 6-ounce pieces salmon fillet
¼ cup fresh lime juice
kosher salt and black pepper
1 lemon, cut into wedges
heavy-duty foil
Steps
- Grease the shiny side of two 12-inch squares of heavy-duty foil with the oil. Place 2 pieces of fish side by side on each square. Fold up the outer edges of the foil (to contain any liquid) and drizzle the fish with the lime juice. Season with salt and pepper.
- Fold the foil closed to form 2 airtight packets. (To test the seal, press down on a packet gently with your hand. If air escapes easily, rewrap.)
- Place the packets in the top rack of the dishwasher. Run a normal cycle. Remove the fish from the foil and serve with the lemon wedges.Serves 4
I don’t know about you, but I am not down with that, no matter how many pinners say how good it is. Imagine going to someone’s house for dinner, and when you get there nothing is on the stove, but rather the hostess pulls your dinner out of the dishwasher? That’s strange.
I wonder if you would do a load of dishes with said salmon in the dishwasher. If not, that would seem like a colossal waste of water just to steam some fish. A normal cycle takes kind of long, whereas you could just cook the salmon faster yourself a bunch of other ways.
I love to cook, but this recipe is just not for me.
Dishwasher Salmon, I dub thee Unpinteresting.
